Piano lessons title

The piano has significantly contributed to modern music. It was first created in the 1700s and had been evolving since then. Today, the piano is a popular musical instrument used in different functions. It consists of over 12,000 parts, and each part must work perfectly to produce the required tone. This ancient music instrument needs 230 strings to produce its sound range.

Get yourself a piano/keyboard

The first step is to get yourself a piano. Consider your budget and research various pianos to find the instrument that suits your budget. If you cannot find a piano, a keyboard can be a perfect alternative. They’re cost-efficient and have lots of features to enhance your music.

Familiarize yourself with your instrument

Assuming you have your piano, take your time to get familiar with it. So, how do you accomplish this? At first, listen to your new instrument to determine whether it is in tune or not. If it’s not in tune, you can consider having a pianist tune it for you, but you can skip this step if you have a keyboard.

Learn about the piano keys and their names. If you choose to buy a piano book, the book should have these names. Learn about the proper hand posture. Make sure you understand how they look and how they differ from each other.

Train your hands with right-hand position

The first step in learning to play the piano is to ensure your arms maintain the proper position (the C position). The C shape is naturally formed when left-hanging to your side, allowing you to read a selection of notes and play some simple chords. You’ll also need to keep this position when putting your arms and on the keys.

It’s important to maintain proper hand positioning to prevent repetitive stress injury.

Familiarized yourself with sharps and flats

Black keys play sharps and flats. They are available in pairs or trios. A # on a piece means you need to play the next higher key.  On the other hand, a b means you have to play the next lower key.

To get started, locate the C note at the center of the piano. All Cs are to the left of two blacks and F to the left of three blacks. So, these are the middle C and middle F as they are in the middle of your piano.

The black key above middle C produces either C# (C sharp) or Db. (D flat). The black key beside it produces either D# or Eb. And the black key beside middle F produces F# or Gb. So, that’s the pattern. Always keep in mind that black keys play either sharps or flats. All notes can be learned here.

Practice makes perfect

As mentioned before, learning any musical instruments will take your commitment to regular practicing. So, set your goals, practice different chords and scales, and learn how to play major keys. Doing all these will help you set the foundation of your playing, so always remember to do this every day.

Learn the piano notes

As a beginner, the important piano note to know is the middle C. as mentioned before, the middle C is at the center of your piano.

Piano notes are  A, B, C, D, E, F, and G. knowing where C is located will help you find other notes. The next white key plays the note D. the next key produces E. so, it goes in alphabetical order to the note F and G respectively, followed by note A. these notes keep repeating. After A, you’ll move to B, C, D, E, F, G, A, B, C, D, E, F, G. C-D-E-F-G-A-B are naturals since they have no sharps and flats.

All about the techniques

Piano techniques are easy to implement and should be used anytime you play the piano.

Maintain an upright position

Well-trained pianists will never slouch over the keyboard. Sitting up straight will increase your focus, and it enhances your playing.

Proper hand positioning

Moving your hands too far when playing piano will move your hands out of position. As a result, it will be harder to find the notes. When playing your piano, move only the fingers. This will help you maintain a better hand position.

Fingering

Fingering helps you maintain your hand position when playing piano songs. It also helps you keep your hand position straight. With that, it will be much easier for you to play classical piano music. Try to start with the original course. This is the full package to become a pianist.

Octaves

This is the distance between two piano notes of the same letter. For instance, C to C, F# to F#. Octaves are often used when playing classic piano songs. To perform octave, set the metronome to 60 and increase the tempo to 120. Start with the right hand and change to the left hand immediately when you reach 120.

3RDS

These are also important intervals. Thirds are mostly used when playing classical, jazz, and blues. To perform this technique, hold the top note a little longer than the lower note. This moves the lower note into position. When 3rds is played correctly, the top notes sound joined while the lower notes sound detached.

Sixths

Sixths are also popular in piano songs. So to play sixth, hold the top note a little longer than the lower note. This will move the lower note into position. Begin slowly, then increase the tempo. The concept here is not to make the top notes sound detached but rather to make them sound smooth.

Trills

This technique is used in many music genres, including baroque, classical, jazz, and blues. In baroque and classical songs, trills are played to extend one note. To perform trills, set the metronome at 60, starting slowly, then suddenly increasing the tempo.

Make sure you can play in public.

Getting used to playing piano in public without becoming anxious is another key to progress. It is important to feel comfortable during your performance, whether you are playing for an audience of one or thousands of people.

Practice classical pieces
